Military Service: Private William Clinton served in Captain Asa Hutchins' Company, 3rd (Hayes') Regiment, Ohio Militia, from August 24 to November 11, 1812. Capt. Hutchins' company contained many men from Vienna Township.[1]

William Clinton, like his possible half-brother Samuel Clinton, traveled to Vienna Township from Wolcott, New Haven County, Connecticut, in 1804. He purchased from the original Township proprietors Uriel Holmes, Jr., Ephraim Root, and Timothy Burr 100 acres of land on Lot #9 east of Vienna Center. The price was $225.

Clinton was elected one of the first three trustees of the Township when it was officially formed in 1806.

William Clinton and his wife Susannah (1779, Connecticut-July 4, 1843) are buried in Old Lot #58 in Vienna Township Cemetery, as is their son John, who died in 1821 at age 20.
