Samuel Cox was 18 years old when he enlisted in the Army on February 18, 1864, in New Brighton, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. He served to the end of the War. His name is not listed on the 1890 Veterans Schedule for Vienna. His gravestone was provided by the federal government, and the marble of which it is made was quarried in Vermont.
