Aloney Rust married Esther Doud, the sister of Samuel Doud, an early settler in Vienna Township.

Military Service: No record of a pension application in Aloney Rust's name has been found. Rust did provide a deposition on behalf of the pension application of Michael Broughton, then living in Vermont.[1]

I Aloney Rust of lawful age, of Fowler Trumbull County Ohio, being duly sworn depose and say, that I am seventy-four years of age. That I served as a private in the Revolutionary War. That I enlisted at the age of between fifteen and sixteen, I think it was in the year 1781. I served in Captain Griffin's Company of Militia, in the Regiment commanded be Col. Canfield. Col. Canfield I think lived in Salisbury Connecticut. I disremember their first names. I enlisted for three months; at the time I enlisted, I resided at what was then called West Britain, since called Burlington, in Hartford County Connecticut. At the time I enlisted, Michael Broughton, named in the above affidavit of Samuel Broughton, also enlisted as a private with me & we both served in the same Company of Captain Griffin, in Col. Canfield's Regiment, three months. We marched from Burlington to Litchfield in Connt and then to Fish Kill in New York State; we went across to West Point and there remained with said Company on duty till discharged by Col. Jackson. We were engaged in no Battles during this time. Broughton and I were discharged, as was also the whole company at the same time. We received regular discharges, but I took no care of mine, and lost it a great many years since. This discharge took place about a year before the War was closed. Soon after Michael Broughton returned home, he enlisted again and wanted me to enlist with him. I understood that he remained out afterwards during most of the war till it closed. He had been out before he & I enlisted together, but how long I cannot say. I don't know that he was in any engagement.

I lived near him when he was married. I was not present at his wedding, but recollect well as to his being married soon after the close of the war, to Sarah Richards, now Sarah Broughton; he was married the same year, or the year after, that the war closed. They lived together as man & wife during my acquaintance with them and till he died, which took place at Pawlet Vermont about twenty years ago as near as I can recollect. And further saith not.
