Military Service: Entered service (three-year enlistment) on December 15, 1861, as a private, age 16, 29th Regiment, Company I, Ohio Infantry; mustered out with company July 13, 1865.

Albert I. Squires’s service extends nearly the entire Civil War. He enlisted as an 18-year-old Private on December 15, 1861. As a member of the 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Squires participated in the battles of Cedar Mountain, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Peachtree Creek (where fellow Vienna resident Seldon S. Truesdell died).

He re-enlisted on December 15, 1863 at Waukatchie, Tennesee and was honorable discharged on July 13, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. He fought at Lookout Mountain and was with Sherman in his famous march to the sea. He was with every engagement of the regiment except at Winchester where he was detailed to go with the wagon train. On September 7, 1865 he married Jenny C. Howland at Green, Ohio. He had two daughters, Mary Luella and Kate Inez Squires. He spent nearly 40 years living in a soldiers home in Galesburg, Illinois.[1]
